Hi! Thanks for visiting us and viewing your junk mail here at Greenjunkmailonline.com.

Greenjunkmailonline.com is Australia’s newest environmentally friendly way to view your favourite catalogues on line.

This website was developed by us (Ash and Sarah Synnott) as we were so tired of pulling out piles of catalogues from our mailbox. We have noticed that around our suburb there are countless catalogues and other junk mail littering the streets, parks, playgrounds and schools. As many can attest to, you will almost definitely see letterboxes around your own area stuffed with flyers, brochures and catalogues.

We thought of getting a “no junk mail” sticker; however we still had the dilemma of wanting to be able to view our favourite catalogues, but felt guilty of the huge volume of paper that was going straight into the recycle bin. We thought considering how much we both love our junk mail and how much time both of us spend surfing the net, what better way than, Greenjunkmailonline.com to view the catalogues we wanted.

Our intention is a simple one, ‘to reduce catalogue waste’. We want people to be able to visit our site, browse, select and view the catalogues they choose, in an environmentally friendly way, and leave knowing that they could potentially save approx 500 pieces of junk mail being distributed to their household per annum.

Research shows that the average household (in the ACT alone) receive in excess of 550 catalogues in their mailbox per year, and according to the Australian Catalogue Association (ACA) around 7.5 billion catalogues were distributed in Australia in 2004, costing a whopping $1.6 billion. The average catalogue delivered weighs approximately 60gms; that equates to each household receiving approximately 33kg of catalogues on an annual basis. Just in the ACT, this equates to over 4,000 tonnes of junk mail being delivered over a 12 month period. The recycling and/or destruction of unread or unwanted pieces of junk mail take time, money and precious environmental resources.

According to census (ABS) in 2005/6 63% of Australian dwellings had access to the internet, and in ACT 72% households had internet. This is not including access through workplaces.

Catalogues account for well over 60% of retail advertising dollars spent in Australia – but that’s only the half of it. In 2002/2003, total catalogues distributed in Australia numbered about seven billion unaddressed and addressed pieces with an industry value of around $1.6 billion.

People read what they want when they want, and our website targets people who want to do the right thing and read their catalogues in an environmentally friendly manner.

Nearly half (42%) of all consumers are reading more letterbox delivered catalogues than they were a few years ago. A staggering 74% of research respondents who received a catalogue within the last 7 days said that they had visited, or would be likely to visit a store as a direct result of receiving the catalogue. Catalogues are an increasingly important information resource, allowing local retailers to connect with their market. Source: Quantum Market Research November 2003.

Catalogues are a valuable method of advertising, they are great for seeing what’s available and new, even if you don’t need to buy anything; however we must change the way we approach the viewing of these. Every little bit helps, we need to challenge ourselves to make small simple changes to our lives that will positively impact the environment and conserve resources.

We hope that you enjoy browsing the catalogues available and that you take advantage of our free “no junk mail” stickers. Thanks for taking the time to browse our website, we hope you enjoy it and tell your family and friends.
